Performance #1: Comfort Food (Friday)

Comfort food [cum-fort fud] : simple, home-style food that brings comforting thoughts of home or childhood; food that is enjoyable to eat and makes the eater feel better emotionally. Often, comfort food provides a nostalgic or sentimental feeling to the person eating it, however strong connections tie in with consumption of comfort foods and feelings of guilt.

Plate of Spaghetti and Veggies

Spaghetti with meat sauce, green bean casserole, and corn on the cob

Before we indulge in a spaghetti and sides eating competition, we need the audience to come to church, prepared with sins to confess for our contest. The confessions will be anonymous, so all secrets and sins across the spectrum are welcome.

Think you’ve got what it takes to be a competitive eater? Break bread with us and face off in a Grilled Cheese eating competition pareidolia-style (the phenomenon of seeing faces in random images). We’ll train ten participants to go three rounds of eating and crown a Belt of Fat champion. First place receives a gift certificate to Pastoral Artisan Cheese Shop…and glory. We’ve eaten your sins, we’ve eaten our own. Today you eat ours.
